Mr. Hyland has had the privilege and honor of working within The First Responder community for over a quarter century. As a First Responder, Leader, Peer Supporter, Advocate, and Counselor, he has seen and felt the devastating impact “The Life” can have upon us and our families. These experiences have helped shape his clinical practice, which is also informed by a tireless commitment to evolving best practices and a healthy dose of humility.
In addition to his clinical practice at Nicoletti-Flater Associates with individuals, couples, and families, Mr. Hyland has worked with myriad public service organizations at the local, state, and national levels. He was recently deployed to Antarctica as the United States Antarctica Program (USAP) Counselor, supporting the community stationed there.
Mr. Hyland gravitated to Nicoletti Flater Associates because of their deep experience in supporting those who support others. They are the original First Responder Behavioral Health Pioneers and continue to set the standard.
Mr. Hyland is a Retired Fire/Rescue Battalion Chief and a Veteran of the Army and Air National Guard. He served with “Operation Provide Comfort” during the Desert Storm Campaign and, as a Rescue Team Member with FEMA NM Task Force 1, responded to the Pentagon after the 9/11/2001 attacks.
Mr. Hyland has received multiple awards and decorations for his public and private service, including recognition by the US Army, the Federal Emergency Management Administration, US Senator Tom Udall, The State of New Mexico, The New Mexico Air National Guard, The City of Albuquerque, The Mayor of Albuquerque, United Airlines, and others.
Mr. Hyland’s passion is working with clients to foster wellness, resilience, and post-traumatic growth using a strengths-based, client-centered, trauma-informed approach. His mission is to grow individual and organizational health in the first responder community. Mr. Hyland enjoys connecting with his friends and family in his free time, traveling, staying fit, and learning.
