Dr. Maletta has worked providing therapy in diverse settings, including jails, emergency rooms, and substance abuse clinics. In addition to these roles, Dr. Maletta trained in psychological assessment working with veterans and in forensic settings.
Influenced by these experiences, Dr. Maletta excels in working collaboratively with clients to swiftly identify their goals and create practical plans to keep them progressing.
Dr. Maletta is trained in forensic assessment, crisis response, substance abuse, and severe mental illness. Dr. Maletta specializes in phase of life transitions, Adult ADHD, burnout, chronic health conditions, and psychological assessment.
After working at the federal level on criminal justice issues, Dr. Maletta saw the need for clinicians who could provide culturally competent care to First Responders and their families.
Dr. Maletta’s transition into the field began during his time as a Congressional staffer in Washington, DC. In this role, he focused on criminal justice and substance abuse issues. This unique perspective shaped his understanding of the complexities public safety professionals face, where oftentimes well-intentioned people in power do not fully understand the realities on the ground.
Dr. Maletta’s policy work continues to this day, where he teaches at CU Denver on the intersection between mental illness and the criminal justice system.
Before returning as a Psychological Services Staff member, Dr. Maletta trained at NFA for two years while completing his doctorate. As a trainee and staff member, he has responded to multiple critical incidents throughout Colorado.
Outside of work, Dr. Maletta finds solace in skiing and mountaineering, brushes up on his language skills, and is an avid “DIY guy” relying on friends, professionals, and online tutorials to learn new skills.
Dr. Maletta provides training to a variety of public safety organizations on topics such as severe mental illness, de-escalation, suicidology, burnout, trauma, and threat assessment.
Dr. Maletta also meets monthly with employees from some departments to work on organizational processes and to enhance group performance.
