Ms. Karinen worked with the Jefferson County CIT program for about 16 years, and was also a crisis negotiator with the SWAT team.
Ms. Karinen is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and belongs to several professional associations: American Counseling Association, Colorado Counseling Association, EMDR International Association, National Association for Drug and Addictions Counselors, and the Colorado Association of Addiction Professionals.
In addition to counseling training, she has training in psychedelic assisted therapy.
Ms. Karinen has a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. Kelly is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and can work with clients using ketamine assisted psychotherapy. Ms. Karinen specializes in trauma and substance use disorder, but also loves working with clients from a wellness perspective.
As a former law enforcement officer (sergeant) Ms. Karinen wanted to give back to the community she worked in. Her goal is to help other first responders develop the skills necessary to be able to have a full career and a wonderful retirement.
When Ms. Karinen isn’t serving those who serve us, she enjoys spending time with family, practicing martial arts and enjoying nerdy things.
